During Behavioural Accounting Workshop in Kuala Lumpur, Prof Tan from NTU addressed shocking information: “Most of accounting, economics, and management scholars have wrong conclusion in behavioural research because most of them never take any formal education of psychology”. Indeed, I do agree with that. Most papers in behavioural economics hanged the conclusion up to addressing the results. No further elaboration with psychology perspective. For example is the Role of full moon on investor behaviour. Rarely found a paper elaborate the findings with Forgas Affect Infusion Model or the Somatic Marker or other psychology literature. It just reported there is an effect of full moon on investor behaviour. That’s all. No robust discussion.
Interestingly, I found a working paper of Matthew Rabin entitled “A Perspective on Psychology and Economics”. The flow is very interesting. It starts with the potential of behavioural economics in the future, then the unrealistic assumption in mainstream economics where behavioural economics tries to fill in, and how we can use psychology to fill in the unrealistic economics assumption. Here is the review. (more…)

It was a frustating to find a good journal for behavioural paper. Based on my experience, behavioural science in economics has limited journals. If it is sent to journals in finance, it will be rejected as it is not that finance. If it is sent to business one, it will be rejected because it is too finance. Another issue is if the paper was a single country, it will be very hard to be accepted.
Indeed, there are several journals that still accepting behavioural finance paper. But it will be very hard as most of are tier 1 or 2 journals. I compiled the journal that accepting behavioural finance, if you have others, please share. (more…)

Hi! I wrote this opinion after receiving shocking news from Indonesia, my homecountry. The minister of education made a regulation that all students, including undergraduate students, have to publish! It became a hot discussion among us in the room (because many of my friends are lecturers in Indonesia public University). It published in Jakarta Post.
You can read the article here or directly from the link: http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2012/02/18/what-you-do-not-know-about-research-publication-a-note-education-minister.html (more…)

I proclaimed that I want to be a behavioural scholar in my second PhD-year. The passion to distinguish with my friends who pursued their PhD in UK (i.e Kamal and Frank) has brought to choose a way of life; a behavioural way. I started to read many behavioural economics papers (including finance and accounting), and drove myself to dig further about it. Luckily, I met Sari in my life.
Sari, who I coincidently met via Friendster, has brought me to a deeper view of behavioural science. She gave me idea to intersect my study with Psychology. Note that her final project of Bachelor degree took Theory Planned Behaviour which is applied in investigating diet person. It is a pinpoint for me to know broader about psychology.
Instead of going deeper on TPB, I learnt Jung Theory, Ellis’ Model, up to the psychometric test. There was a moment I was very happy knowing that we can measure of “mental health” using MMPI. Then I learnt further about how the psychologist conducted their research. (more…)

The next time you are about to trade securities, you may first want to check if it’s sunny outside.
If you remember a fairytale about a lonely sad toad that asked the rain to accompany him, or a TV program for babies called Teletubbies who wait for sunny days, you, as an investor, may end up as a toad or a Teletubby. It’s true! Believe it or not, whether it’s stormy or sunny outside it will influence your stocks and profits.

Note that I am digging out the Moon Effect article because it is related to my Thesis. This article describes the how the moon can affect human behaviour. Happy Reading!

A week ago, I planned to submit my paper to Humanomic, an International journal that covering the rlationship between sociology and economics. I got an idea about the relationship between religion freedom and economics when I was preparing the tutorial of Macroeconomics. It is an interesting Idea. However, as I have many things to do such as: monitoring the exam, tutoring, papers, thesis, SLEEPING, BADMINTON-ing, FACEBOOK-ing etc, I told to myself how about I just write an opinion article and send it to a newspaper? Moreover, after I read my friend (Domingus Elcid Li) article in newspaper, it was just a “green light” for me to write the article.
Then, I wrote the article. The title is Freedom, Welfare, and Indonesia. In a brief, it discuss about the relationship between Press Freedom, Economic Freedom, and Religion Freedom and Welfare. Some more, I related it with Indonesia situation. It published in Analisa on 24 February 2011. Indeed, I am so glad with it.
I post the article here. But, So sorry, it was written in Indonesia Language. All the best!
